Matt Burgan predicts the National Draft order every year.
This year has been a tricky one to predict, even by the Burgatron’s standards - below is how he fared against the cumulative efforts of the drafter.
Of the first 44 players selected Burgan only got 9 incorrect. He has no doubt slipped up on Harry Taylor, Mitchell Farmer, Brett Meredith, Matthew Lobbe, Scott Simpson, John Mccarthy, Jarrhan Jacky, Chris Mayne, Chris Kangars and Guy O’Keefe. 29 of the first 30 players selected appeared in both lists although only 2 players were selected in order.
The selections get very hazy outside of the top 30 and looks like being a good old fashioned chook-raffle for the youngsters and the clubs alike. Clubs will be hoping to find a Goldsack lurking in the lower regions of this year’s draft.
Jarrad Grant was perhaps Burgan’s most contraversial selection having slipped to number 22 in theDrafter’s order Burgan found a spot for him in the top 5. The Western Bulldogs’ interest in tall forwards no doubt being the influencing factor here, however, most clubs now claim to select the best player available - regardless of position. This mantra will be put to the test on Saturday.
